Roulette Bets Explained: Inside Bets, Outside Bets and the Zero

M2 Win table guide card: roulette bets explained, with the straight-up payout of 35 to 1

The wheel

One Wheel, Thirty-Seven Pockets

European roulette has 37 pockets: the numbers 1 to 36, half red and half black, and a single green zero. Every bet is settled by where the ball lands, and every payout is set as if the zero were not there - which is exactly where the house edge comes from.

An American wheel adds a double zero, making 38 pockets and nearly doubling that edge. The rules panel at each live table says which wheel it uses. Those tables sit behind an account; read how registration at M2 Win works if you do not hold one yet.

The edge

Why Every Bet Costs the Same

On a single-zero wheel every standard bet carries the same house edge: 2.70%. A straight-up bet pays 35 to 1 against true odds of 36 to 1, and an even-money bet wins 18 times in 37 rather than 18.5. Choosing between bets changes how often you win and by how much, not what the table keeps over time. On a double-zero wheel the edge rises to 5.26%.

Some French-style tables return half of an even-money stake when the ball lands on zero, which cuts the edge on those bets to 1.35%. Which other tables run beside the wheel, from dragon tiger to baccarat, is set out on the M2 Win popular games page.

Call bets

Racetrack and Call Bets

Live tables often add a racetrack layout for bets on sections of the wheel rather than the table - a number and its neighbours, or named sectors such as voisins du zéro, tiers and orphelins. They are groups of ordinary bets placed together, so they carry the same edge as the bets they are made of.

At the table

Playing Live Roulette

At a live table the dealer spins, the betting window closes as the ball slows, and the result appears with the winning bets highlighted. Previous results show beside the wheel. Each spin is independent of the last, so a run of reds says nothing about the next one.

Questions
